I have had dinners with the in-laws (call the 70s joke police) that I have looked forward to more than I have the international friendly between England and the Republic of Ireland this Wednesday evening. A profit can still be made from this game though so here is our guide to the best of the bets from this game and the other games that night.
England are 1/2 (GENERAL) to see off the Republic of Ireland at Wembley as they look to continue a run of form that has seen them win five of their last six home international friendlies. Sides such as Spain, Brazil and France are among the victims to Roy Hodgson and his men. The Republic of Ireland though will be boosted by the recent head-to-head records between the sides in which they are unbeaten in their last four meetings and they have lost just one of their last nine international friendlies under Giovanni Trapattoni. The last three of these games have ended drawn and the draw can be backed here at 10/3 (GENERAL) while the Republic of Ireland are 7/1 (bet365/BETVICTOR/SPREADEX) for the victory.
1-1 has been the score the last three times the sides have met and for this result to repeat you can get 9/1 (BETVICTOR/william hill). To do this though the Republic of Ireland must do something they have failed to do in five of their last seven away games and that is score.
In addition England have kept a clean sheet in seven of their last 11 home games and that includes shut outs against Belgium, Spain and Italy, sides with a much bigger scoring threat than the Republic of Ireland. Fans of correct score betting might want to consider England 1-0 at 6/1 (BETVICTOR/william hill) and England 2-0 13/2 (BETVICTOR/WILLIAM HILL). The bet for me though is to take 6/5 (betfred) on England to keep a clean sheet.
In addition look to get on the 9/5 (BETVICTOR) on Daniel Sturridge to score at anytime. The Liverpool front man has been in great form since January netting 11 goals and six in his last five. England have scored at least once in 25 of their last 26 internationals and no player is in greater scoring form than Sturridge. The Republic of Ireland side are vulnerable to pace as shown when Germany ripped them apart in the World Cup 2014 qualifying campaign.
German football is currently riding a high at the moment and they take on Ecuador in a friendly that evening in Florida. Germany will have their supporters at 3/4 (betway) for victory here though this looks a little short for me. The Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund stars will not be part of this game and in addition Ecuador are no mugs. They sit second behind Argentina in South American qualifying and are unbeaten in their last eight games. The draw could be in play at 3/1 (BETVICTOR/WILLIAM HILL/BWIN) while the Ecuador victory is 9/2 (SKYBET). The best bet in this game is in backing Felipe Caicedo to score at anytime which is available at a generous 7/2 (william hill). The Lokomotiv Moscow striker has scored eight goals in his last seven games for the national side and is up against a team that has kept just three clean sheets in their last 13 games.
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: England to keep a clean sheet v Rep of Ireland, 6/5 (betfred)
SILVER: Daniel Sturridge to score anytime v Rep of Ireland, 9/5 (BETVICTOR)
BRONZE: Felipe Caicedo to score anytime v Germany, 7/2 (william hill)
