After a hugely successful Tour De France for British Riders, Team GB will look to continue this on at the Olympics, can they succeed? Find out here in our guide to the Olympic Cycling events.
MENS ROAD RACE: SAT 28th JULY 10:00 (BST)
Mark Cavendish is a 5/4 (william hill) shot to win this. It looks good value on a rider who arrives full of confidence after winning a couple of stages on the Tour de France and who won the 2011 World Championship in Copenhagen. Sure there is a lot that can go wrong when 142 men compete in a race of some 250Km, but Cavendish is the class act and come Saturday afternoon he could be the proud owner of the first Gold medal of the games for Team GB.
INDIVIDUAL TIME TRIAL: WED 1st AUGUST 14:05
Bookmakers want to take few chances with Bradley Wiggins (4/5-Bodog) and who can blame them. The Tour de France winner dominated both the race and the time trials in France and you suspect only an accident or a piece of bad luck could stop him here. World time trial champion Tony Martin, Fabian Cancarella and Chris Froome are likely to provide the toughest challenges. If you think Froome can repeat his Tour De France heroics you can get 5/2 (Bwin) that he grabs a medal of any description.
OTHER CYCLING EVENTS
Also taking place are the Mens Kerin, Mens Omnium, Mens Sprint, Team Pursuit and Team Sprint. Chris Hoy is the 4/5 (You Win) favourite for the Mens Kerin, Ed Clancy is the 4/1 (general) second favourite for the Omnium (behind Australian Glenn O’Shea-5/2 boylesports). Frenchman Gregory Bauge heads the market (8/15-Skybet/boylesports) from Jason Kenny (3/1-sportingbet) for the Sprint. In the team markets GB are 10/11 (general) for Gold in the Mens Team Pursuit and 5/1 (betfred/paddy Power) third favourites for the Mens Team Sprint (Germany head this market at 6/4-BetVictor).
In addition BMX and Mountain Bike will also be part of the Olympics with Australian Sam Willoughby the favourite for Gold at 4/1 (bet365/Bwin/william hill) in the BMX. Frenchman Joris Daudet is a 5/1 (BetVictor) hopeful, while Latvian Maris Strombergs is a 6/1 (BetVictor) chance. The Mens Mountain Bike market is headed by the number one ranked, Czech Jaroslav Kulhavy at 45/17 (Bwin).
WOMENS ROAD RACE: Sunday 29th July 12:00
British duo Nicole Cooke and Emma Pooley will hope to get the campaign for Team GB Women underway with Gold, but bookmakers are not hopeful. Cooke is the seventh favourite at 18/1 (bet365/paddy Power) while Pooley is ninth favourite at 28/1 (bet365). The market is headed by Dutch cyclist Marianne Vos with Italian Giorgia Bronzini expected to be her closest rival (9/2-Totesport/betfred).
WOMENS INDIVIDUAL TIME TRIAL: Wednesday 1st August 12:30
Emma Pooley is expected to go better here and is 9/4 (bet365/Skybet) joint favourite for the Gold medal alongside Judith Arndt (9/4-Bwin). It looks to be a tight battle between those two with slight preference for the Brit as the course seems to suit her more.
OTHER WOMENS RACES
Victoria Pendelton is 2/1 (general) second favourite for Gold in the Sprint, behind Anna Meares (11/8-general). These two are also head of the market in the Keirin with the Australian the 17/10 (Bwin) favourite and Pendelton 4/1 (general). BMX rider Shanaze Reade has become one of the faces of the games and the two time world champion is a 5/2 (general) favourite. Preference though is for World Number one Magalie Pottier from France who appeals more at the price of 5/1.
