Juventus vs. Sevilla - Betting preview and odds

September 30, 2015 19:45pm - Juventus Stadium, Turin

Champions League - Group D

Juventus and Sevilla will meet in a competitive environment for first time on Wednesday night when the clubs go head-to-head in Group D of the Champions League.

Domestic woes

This clash should prove intriguing as reigning Serie A champions Juventus and Europa League holders Sevilla have both had very poor starts to their domestic campaigns. The Coaches of both sides will see this game as an opportunity to get their respective seasons back on track.

After an incredible 2014/15 which ended with a fourth straight league crown, a Coppa Italia and a Champions League final appearance, Juve were once again expected to dominate the top tier in Italy. However, Massimiliano Allegri`s team have already lost three league games and currently sit in fifteenth place in the table after six games. The 2-1 defeat to Napoli last weekend has left them 10 points adrift of leaders Fiorentina.

Despite the gloomy outlook in the league, La Vecchia Signora has plenty to be positive about in Europe“s elite competition. They got off to the perfect start by coming from behind to defeat Manchester City in the first game week earlier this month. A win at home to Sevilla on Wednesday would put them in a great position with four games remaining.

Some positives for Sevilla

It is a similar story for the Spanish side who have struggled in La Liga but got off to the perfect start in Europe by beating Borussia Monchengladach 3-0 in the first game week. After finishing fifth in La Liga last term, Unai Emery“s men were hoping to break into the top four this season. However, they currently sit in sixteenth place having won just a single game out of six. The positive news is that their first win came in last weekend“s game against Madrid side Rayo Vallecano.

On another positive note, Wednesday night will see the Andalucian club return to scene of their 2014 Europa triumph.

Team news

The home side will be buoyed by the news that midfielder Sami Khedira has returned to first-team training after missing the start of the season with thigh injury. However, Mario Mandzukic and Claudio Marchisio are both unavailable. Stephan Lichtsteiner missed the game against Napoli but should be available for selection on Wednesday.

Sevilla will be without key midfielder Ever Banega while Sergio Escudero, Daniel Carrico, Gael Kakuta and Adil Rami are also unavailable.
