Hull City are languishing in the final relegation spot but will be able to rise to as high as 14th with a win at home over Newcastle in tomorrow`s early kick-off (12:45). United currently sit in 11th after seeing their form tail off following their seven games without a defeat under former manager Alan Pardew. A win would see them move one place higher in John Carver`s first game as permanent boss.
Despite their lowly position near the foot of the table, the Tigers` home advantage means that they are the 17/10 favourites with Betvictor, boylesports and william hill. Newcastle are best priced 2/1 with boylesports to start Carver`s full-time tenure with a victory, with a draw available at 23/10 with bet365.
The last time the two sides met was back in September at St. James` Park when the team`s played out a frantic 2-2 draw with all four goals scored in the second 45. Nikica Jelavic put the away side`s noses in front three minutes after the restart before Mohamed Diame doubled their advantage 20 minutes later. The magpies were saved, however, thanks to a magic brace from substitute Papiss Cisse whose two goals in the last 15 minutes saw the spoils shared.
Cisse has only scored once in the last five games, that being in a 3-2 victory over Everton back in December. Despite this he is the 5/2 favourite with ladbrokes to grab a goal at any time. Fourteen-to-one (bet365, Boylesports, william hill) says he will score two or more goals once again.
It`s touch and go as to whether Jelavic will be fit to play after picking up an injury in the home side`s 1-0 defeat against West Brom. Their second centre-forward, Abel Hernandez was also struck down in that match though is also a contender to start on Saturday. Both players are 12/5 with ladbrokes to find the net at any time should they be registered as fit to play. Otherwise, it might be worth taking a chance on Hull to score under 1.5 goals which is 1/10 with Boylesports.
Steve Bruce`s men have failed to find the back of the net in all of their last three games in all competitions, falling to defeats at Arsenal in the FA Cup (2-0) and West Brom (1-0) and West Ham (3-0) in the Premier League. It`s 15/4 (Betvictor, Boylesports) should you think that Newcastle can win to nil against the relegation-threatened Tigers tomorrow.
This won`t be such an easy feat for Newcastle, United having failed to keep a Premier League clean sheet on the road since their first clash with West Brom back in November. In fact, the Magpies have picked up only one point on their travels in their last five games, shipping 11 goals in the process.
This run began with a 1-0 defeat at West Ham`s Boleyn Ground, before a draw away at Burnley`s Turf Moor provided the club with their only point of this winless streak. Cisse levelled up three minutes after half time following George Boyd`s first-half strike.
Ayoze Perez grabbed a goal against Arsenal though Newcastle were already three down at the time, the Gunners adding a fourth through a Santi Cazorla penalty to make the result 4-1. Cisse converted a late penalty at Old Trafford to see their game with Manchester United end 3-1 whilst Carver`s men failed to net against Chelsea despite their positive performance in their last match on the road.
This means that the Toon have conceded an average of just over two goals a match. Betvictor`s 18/5 says Hull can score exactly two tomorrow despite their injury concerns and recent profligacy.
