Liverpool could continue their rise up the Premier League table by beating West Ham at home tomorrow. The Reds are currently one position below the 7th placed Hammers and could usurp both the East London club and Tottenham with a victory. In contrast, however, Sam Allardyce`s men could feasibly move into the Champions League places with a win and will be looking to pick up all three points tomorrow.
The last time these two teams met in the Premier League was back in September at Upton Park. The home side got the win thanks to two early goals from Winston Reid and Diafra Sakho. Raheem Sterling reduced the deficit before half time though Morgan Amalfitano`s late goal meant that West Ham grabbed the 3-1 victory.
Despite this, it is Liverpool who are the 7/10 favourites to record their first victory of the season over United and extend their five game unbeaten run at Anfield. betfair have the best price on a draw with the bookmaker offering odds of 16/5. It`s 19/4 with bet365 for Allardyce to mastermind another victory over the Merseysiders with 50/1 (betfred, Coral) saying that the game will end in an identical 3-1 score-line. West Ham have been positive on the road recently, picking up five points in their last five Premier League away games. The Iron have also bagged a goal in four of these matches, their only profligate 90 minutes coming in a 2-0 defeat at league leaders Chelsea.
Prior to this clash with the Blues, Mauro Zarate netted as United fell to a 2-1 defeat at Everton before having to come from behind to hit two past West Brom in their 2-1 win. Kevin Nolan and James Tomkins bagged first-half goals following Craig Dawson`s opener. The Chelsea game was also preceded by a 1-1 draw with Sunderland, Stewart Downing this time on the scoresheet.
The score was also 1-1 as they took on Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium in the only away game subsequent to their Chelsea struggle. Andy Carroll levelled up following Mark noble`s own goal.
What with Liverpool also having a good goal scoring record at Anfield in the League recently, they have scored nine goals in their last five in Liverpool in the league, betway and ladbrokes are offering 3/4 on both teams scoring tomorrow. Meanwhile it`s 11/10 with most bookmakers should you think that this won`t happen.
The two most potent goal scorers in these five games were midfielders Steven Gerrard and Adam Lallana, both of whom grabbed braces, Gerrard in the side`s 2-2 draw with Leicester and Lallana in their 4-1 triumph over Swansea. As a result, these players are 11/4 (betfred, Totesport) and 14/5 (32red, 888sport, unibet) respectively to hit the back of the net at any time tomorrow. They can also be backed at 18/1 (unibet) and 16/1 (paddy Power) to score two or more again.
Liverpool`s strike force may also be given a boost with the potential return of Daniel Sturridge from a series of long-term injuries. The England international`s latest injury was a thigh problem that kept him sidelined for five months. He is 4/1 across the board at break the deadlock tomorrow.
In other team news, West Ham might be without Carl Jenkinson, Alex Song and West Brom hero Tomkins after all picking up minor niggles during the mid-week. The nature of these injuries are not known.
