If the on court battle between Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova is anything like as entertaining as the off court battle between the pair then we could be in for a treat. Here is our guide to the best of the bets for the Ladies title at Wimbledon as these two look set for a collison course in the final.

A few weeks ago we suggested cleaning up on the 7/5 some firms were offering on Serena Williams to win Wimbledon and true enough we were right to do so as the American is now no bigger than 4/9 (GENERAL). Williams has been in incredible form on the court having won three of the last four Grand Slam titles on offer and going 31 matches unbeaten. If she manages to win here it will her sixth success at Wimbledon (her fourth in the last five years). It looks tough to oppose the American though it is tough to side with her at that price also.

Maria Sharapova is in the opposite half of the draw and you would hope the opposite half of the locker room following her spiked commens about Serena this week. Sharapova won this event in 2004 though has since only made the final one more time and last year was eliminated in the fourth round. She has a nice route to the semi-finals though her head-to-head record with Serena (two wins and 14 losses) means that the best way to play it might be to back the Russian at 6/5 (BWIN) to make the final.

Victoria Azarenka is the 10/1 (YOU WIN) third favourite and the likely semi-final opponent for Sharapova. The second seed has never made the final here although she did win Gold in the doubles at the 2012 London Olympics. I suspect Azarenka will win her quarter some value could be had in taking on a player who never looks at home on the grass as she does on other surfaces. Yanina Wickmayer has made the third round in two of the last three years here (2010 and 2012) and the fourth round in 2011. The Belgian also reached the semi-final at Eastbourne recently and is a generous 80/1 (boylesports/CORAL/YOU WIN) to win the fourth quarter.

The finalist last year Agnieszka Radwanska heads the second quarter betting market at 9/4 (TOTESPORT/betfred). The Pole though does not look in great form going out in the quarters at France before suffering a straight sets loss to Jamie Hampton at Eastbourne. Li Na comes next in the market at 7/2 (CORAL) though this looks short on a player who has never reached the last four here before and exited at this venue in round two in 2012 and 2011.

It is a section full of players who have seen better days , players who might never see good days and those who have no real grass form to speak of. I think a little value can be had then in backing Petra Martic to win this quarter at 500/1 (betfred/YOU WIN). The Croatian won a grass tournament in Nottingham in June and has not much luck here. In 2010 she had to withdraw from a second round match with Marion Bartoli because of injury. In 2011 she ran into Tsvetana Pironlova who went on to reach the last eight with the same fate awaiting in 2012 when she ran into the on form Sabine Lisicki. At inflated prices she looks worth a small interest.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Maria Sharapova to make the Wimbledon Ladies Final, 6/5 (BWIN)
SILVER: Yanina Wickmayer to win the fourth quarter, 80/1 (boylesports/CORAL/YOU WIN)
BRONZE: Petra Martic to win the second quarter, 500/1 (betfred/YOU WIN)
