Cake Poker - Freerolls & Big Rewards Are a Piece of Cake

Incorporated in Curaçao, Cake Gaming N.V. was founded by poker players for poker players in 2004. Its Cake Poker web site launched two years later, featuring a downloadable poker room based on proprietary software and linked into the Cake Poker Network (CKPN). English is the site’s primary language, with German offered as an alternative. The U.S. dollar is used as the main currency for all games and promotions.

Games to Play

Cake Poker provides both ring games and poker tourneys that run 24/7. Monthly tournament payouts top $20 million and include winnings from sit & go events as well as multi-table Bounty, Loyalty and Guaranteed competitions. The games played here include Texas Hold’em, Omaha, and Omaha Hi-Lo, all of which are available in No-Limit, Fixed Limit, and Pot-Limit formats. Some 2,500 players can be found online at any given time.

Real money games are the main attraction, of course, but to allow new players to experience and practice with the Cake Poker software, “play money” games are also offered. Each player starts out with 1,000 play money chips. Should the play chip count drop below 1,000, a click on the Dealer’s tray will replenish the stack. The play money tables can be accessed under the “Ring Games” tab, where all opportunities can be viewed and filtered by clicking on a specific game type.

The Cake Poker interface was recently upgraded to version 2.0. It supports multi-tabling, with all tournaments taking breaks at 55 minutes past the hour. A new tournament filter makes game selection easier than ever, tables can be resized, and a toggle allows distracting avatars to be replaced by “simple” position markers.

In version 2.0, a supplement to the Cake Poker rooms is a tab for “Cake Games.” It links to “Cake War,” a version of the classic card game War, along with access to Cake Blackjack Tourneys. As of this writing, the text for both of these was still in the original German.

Bonuses to Claim

In fact, Freerolls are a defining characteristic of Cake Poker, used not only to welcome new players but also to thank loyal existing ones. A current schedule of these costless events can be found under the Freeroll tab within the site’s Tournaments section. They include a $1,000 Bankroll Freeroll each Saturday and the monthly Freeroll into Millions promotion with a guaranteed $200,000 in payouts.

The Cake Poker loyalty scheme is known as the Gold Stacks Reward Program. It features Gold Chips that can be redeemed for cash or prizes and as buy-ins to an exclusive set of daily satellites, prize pools, and live event qualifier tournaments. A list of these can be found under the site’s Gold tab.

Another special feature is called Gold Cards. These are collectible rewards issued randomly to real money ring game players, regardless of stake or level. Even player who fold are eligible to receive them. The Gold Cards provide access to over $100,000 in monthly cash and prizes, such as free buy-ins for daily satellites. Matching Gold Cards to a game board can lead to up to $25,000 cash.

The Cake Shop is Cake Poker’s shopping venue for Cake gear, bonus cash, tournament tickets, Ipods, and even a Ducati Super Bike. Merchandise can be claimed by using Gold Chips, and the shop is set up to mail the items selected just about anywhere in the world.

Seasonal promotions are also big at Cake Poker. In the recent “Two for the Money” multi-table promotion, those players who played a total of 100 real money hands across two or more tables were given a shot at a $1,000 prize. And in the Punta Cana Poker Classic qualifiers, holidays were the top prize, with winners sent to the Dominican Republic for a live $250,000 tournament. The package was worth $3,100, including a $1,000 buy-in plus cash to help cover travel expenses, four nights hotel accommodations at the Moon Palace Hotel and Casino, shuttle service, and all-inclusive premium food and beverages.
